Future Fridays: Our Alumni Journeys

We proudly celebrate the journey of 2020 SCSA Netball Graduate, Mali North.

After completing her studies with SCSA at the Glandore Oval venue, Mali spent four and a half years working full-time at Bunnings. She’s now taking exciting steps toward a new career path—currently studying to become a Pilates instructor and finalising her requirements to begin work in the support sector.

Mali continues to stay active in the sporting world, representing the Lobethal Tigers in A Grade club netball in the Adelaide Hills.

Reflecting on her time at SCSA, Mali shares that her experience was life-changing. Before joining SCSA, she had attended three different high schools in three years, often struggling to keep up with traditional learning styles. Diagnosed with dyslexia in Year 4, Mali had long found the conventional classroom setting challenging.

“SCSA offered a completely different way of learning that was so much more suited to the way my brain was wired. It left me feeling capable, smart and passionate about my sport.”

Mali highlights the impact of the practical, sport-integrated learning environment and the unwavering support of her teacher, Dana, as instrumental to her success.

“I’m so very grateful I had the opportunity for her to be my teacher. The support she offered and the authentic care she had for her students was rare.”

Her time at SCSA helped her develop the confidence, independence and self-belief to explore a future full of possibility.

“SCSA made me feel more educated because I could finally understand what was going on—and it opened my mind to a world of opportunities.”

Now on the path to a career in health and community care, Mali is putting everything she’s learned into practice, both in and out of the classroom.

Her advice for current SCSA students?

“Take every opportunity you get—say yes to everything.”

We’re incredibly proud of Mali’s journey so far and can’t wait to see what the future holds for her in the health and wellness space.
