Claudia’s Journey to Division I Football

, written by

At Sports College SA, we love seeing where our students’ pathways can take them. For Claudia, a 2025 graduate of our Cove Football program, that pathway has led all the way to the United States, where she is now playing Division I football at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Claudia’s time at SCSA was shaped by the balance between study and sport. Her days often started with coursework and assignments before joining her classmates for midday football training, which quickly became the highlight of her routine. She remembers those sessions fondly, playing together, sharing laughs and pushing each other to improve, all while making sure deadlines were met. It was this rewarding mix of academic focus and sporting opportunity that drew her to the College in the first place.

Coming from a school where mandatory subjects didn’t align with her goals, Claudia was excited by the chance to tailor her learning around what mattered most. That flexibility allowed her to stay on top of her academics while pursuing her sporting ambitions. Along the way, she built memories in the classroom and on the pitch, from group projects filled with laughter to football tournaments where the team’s hard work paid off. She credits much of her growth to the guidance of Ashley Jenner, Director of Learning Innovation and her classroom teacher, Danielle Palmer, whose encouragement gave her the confidence to keep striving.

The journey wasn’t without its challenges. One of the biggest hurdles was meeting NCAA eligibility requirements, which demand 16 approved core courses. With some Australian subjects not recognised in the U.S. system, Claudia was left short of what she needed. That could have stopped her dream in its tracks but with the College’s support, a personalised plan was created.

Working with her agent, past schools and even directly with the NCAA, SCSA helped her enrol in online courses and complete aligned assignments to bridge the gap. It was a stressful time, but one she now looks back on as a turning point. “For anyone aspiring to compete in the U.S. college system, I can confidently say it is possible with SCSA’s help,” she says.

Now, Claudia’s life as a student-athlete in the U.S. is as demanding as it is rewarding. Her weeks are filled with morning weight sessions, classes, recovery and rehab, training and regular matches, alongside strict academic requirements to maintain her GPA. The intensity of Division I football has been unlike anything she’s experienced before but she loves the challenge. Travelling to different states for games and experiencing new styles of play has been one of the most exciting parts of her journey so far.

Despite the distance, Claudia still keeps in touch with classmates and staff from her time at SCSA, leaning on those connections for support and encouragement. Her advice to current students is simple: make the most of every opportunity the College provides. “The pathway to the U.S. college system is real and achievable,” she says. “The journey isn’t easy, but with hard work and the resources available, it’s absolutely possible.”

Looking ahead, Claudia plans to graduate in 2028 with a major in Mass Communications and a minor in Marketing. She hopes to continue her football career professionally, possibly in Europe, while also building a career in media and marketing. No matter where her journey takes her, one thing is certain, she plans to stay connected to the athletic world, both on and off the field.
