At Sports College SA, we love seeing the many different pathways our students pursue after graduation. For Josh Boxall, a member of the Class of 2024, that pathway has been shaped by service, leadership and a willingness to embrace opportunities beyond his comfort zone.
Today, Josh spends much of his time running his own support work business, working with young boys and their families while also serving within Christian ministries and continuing his studies. He is currently studying remedial massage at Evolve College, completing an internship through his church and working as a support worker through the business he has built himself.
Sport also continues to play an important role in Josh’s life. He still enjoys playing in the under-21 competition and Thursday night social sport, while also finding time for one of his other passions – distance trail running.
Since leaving SCSA, Josh has stepped confidently into full-time work and has continued to create opportunities that align with his values and interests.
“Since finishing school, I have been able to step into full-time work in my business and even started working with my best friend,” he says. “I’ve also had heaps of opportunities to go overseas to Africa and Southeast Asia and speak to tens of thousands of people about the impact my faith has had in my life. I have also been a leader in a statewide youth movement.”
Reflecting on his time at SCSA, Josh believes the experiences he had at the College equipped him with skills that continue to shape the opportunities he has pursued since graduating.
“Sports College South Australia gave me opportunities to grow skills like public speaking, integrity, leadership and time management,” he says. “All these things have been absolutely core to the opportunities I have since stepped into after school.”
When asked about his favourite SCSA memory, Josh immediately thinks back to an overseas adventure shared with his classmates.
“I loved our final trip to the USA after graduating,” he says. “It was an incredible time celebrating our schooling experience with my best friends – and watching LeBron and Wemby in person.”
One of the biggest lessons Josh took away from SCSA was the importance of building relationships.
“Networking,” he says. “Learning how to talk and work with so many different people through the countless opportunities at school has allowed me to build relationships and connections all over the world.”
Since graduating, Josh is most proud of the times he has chosen courage over comfort.
“I’m proud of seeing myself step out of my comfort zone by leaving the country and taking risks for the sake of other people’s benefit,” he says.
His advice to current SCSA students is to make the most of every opportunity and every person you encounter.
“Take advantage of every opportunity school gives you and talk to everyone you meet,” he says. “But always be the same person. At home, school or a sporting comp, be consistent.”
Looking ahead, Josh’s aspirations are grounded in both purpose and connection. He hopes to find a sustainable way to travel throughout Australia and around the world, sharing his story and supporting others, while one day building a beautiful family of his own.
He leaves current students with one final reflection:
“Each person has different gifts and interests. Push into those and you will genuinely have an impact on the people around you.”
Josh’s journey is a reminder that success doesn’t look the same for everyone. Sometimes, it’s found in serving others, staying true to who you are, and having the courage to pursue what matters most to you.
