Future Fridays: Our Alumni Journeys
We proudly celebrate the journey of 2023 SCSA Netball and Cricket Graduate, Katelyn James.
Katelyn began her journey with Sports College South Australia in 2022 as part of the Netball class at Glandore, and continued into 2023 in the combined Netball/Cricket class. From the outset, she embraced every opportunity, pushing herself beyond her comfort zone—and it’s clear that her commitment and courage have laid the foundation for a bright future.
Today, Katelyn is making strides in both the sport and fitness industries, working as a Development Officer at Netball South Australia and at Revo Fitness. She has already completed her Certificate III in Fitness and Recreation and is currently studying for her Certificate IV, with a clear goal of becoming a qualified personal trainer.
She’s still involved in netball—now playing socially, reconnecting with the fun and community of the sport. Beyond her professional pursuits, she’s also stepped into independent life, having moved out with her partner and making the most of every chance to travel and explore.
Reflecting on her time at SCSA, Katelyn shares:
“My time at Sports College has played a huge part in where I am today. I had no idea the opportunities that were coming my way when I started back in 2022. My teachers and friends pushed me out of my comfort zone into things I never thought I would be capable of. This helped me become confident in myself and strive to do big things with my life!”
Katelyn credits the hands-on approach and the supportive environment at SCSA for giving her the tools—and the belief—to succeed.
She leaves current students with heartfelt advice:
“Take the opportunities! Use every opportunity given to you, you never know what could come from it.
Make friends—some of my closest friends are from my class and I know we’ll be lifelong friends.
Put yourself out there! You never know who is watching and what can come from just showing up every day.
Enjoy where you are, enjoy the process, don’t rush for the next steps—you’ll never be where you are right now and that’s a beautiful thing. Do the hard things. The hard thing is what gets you big opportunities. Lastly, have fun, take risks and enjoy it!”
Katelyn’s story is a wonderful example of how embracing opportunity and staying open to growth can lead to real transformation. We’re so proud of her journey so far—and excited to see what comes next.
