On Thursday the 7th of May the statewide girls’ team had the opportunity to attend a training session at the South Australian Sports Institute which was run by former Opals captain Tess Madgen. The training session allowed the us to work and focus on 1 on 1 and 2 on 2 advantages, which focused on creating contact to effectively attack the defence. We also learnt about reading defence which allowed them to make the best decision for the team to take the best shot.
The overall experience of the session was extremely positive with good training intensity from everyone. We all gave it 110% and got something out of the session which they will hopefully be able to transfer into game day situations.
The thing I enjoyed the most about this session was the atmosphere and the team culture. The session was intense and everyone was laughing and having a good time. Being able to have a session coached by Tess was an amazing experience for the team because Tess was able to share her experiences from the high levels she has played.
