Wellbeing and Performance

, written by

At Sports College South Australia, we’re proud that 87% of our students feel their wellbeing and performance, in learning, personal growth, or sport, has improved. This isn’t just a number; it’s a reflection of the support, guidance, and opportunities our students experience every day.

We feel a key contributor to this is our Beyond the Game program, an internally developed, student-centred performance and wellbeing initiative. Designed and delivered by our allied health professionals in the Student Performance and Wellbeing (SPW) team, the program equips students with practical tools and knowledge across areas including:

  • Training, recovery, and sleep
  • Safety, connection, and healthy relationships
  • Self-care and healthy lifestyles
  • Resilience and mental performance
  • Body image and nutrition basics
  • Mental health foundations

Through interactive activities, a personalised booklet, and ongoing guidance from the SPW team, Beyond the Game helps students develop skills that improve both their sporting performance and everyday wellbeing. Students can also complete optional check-ins to reflect on their progress and access extra support if needed, providing another pathway to growth and development.

Completing Beyond the Game also contributes to a unit in the VET Certificate in Sport (Athlete), linking personal growth and wellbeing to real-world qualifications and future opportunities. This program is just one example of how Sports College SA supports students to thrive on and off the field, helping them take control of their learning, wellbeing, and personal development.
